Alzheimer’s Disease Research Methodology – from Cell to populations Summer school (Center for Dementia Prevention, University of Edinburgh)
This year the University of Edinburgh offers a 4-day CDP Summer School on research methods. The school is designed principally for post-graduate students with an interest in pursuing research in Alzheimer’s Disease, but also open to final year students and medical students undertaking parallel research projects. Admission will be restricted to 20 participants. The course will provide an overview of research design and methodology from cellular and animal research through to clinical and general population studies.

Fundamentals of Population Health Management (Leiden University Medical Center)
The Summer School Population Health Management is an inspiring and unique 5-day event adressed at the highly talented pioneering MSc-/PhD-students. In this summer school, internationally respected experts, as Stephen Sutch from Johns Hopkins University, will give insights in the systematic approach of Population Health Management and external speakers as Jurriaan Pröpper, director of OptiMedis connected to Gesundes Kinzigtal, will show successful examples of Population Health Management in practice. In result of their participation, students will gain insights in the systematic approach of Population Health Management, they will be able to view current and future healthcare challenges in a broader perspective and have practical experiences that will help them in their future career. Furthermore, the participants will receive a certificate signed by the University of Leiden, the LUMC and the Boerhaave Nascholing.

LOTS – Leiden Oxford Transplantation Summer School (Leiden University Medical Center and the University of Oxford)
- The Leiden Oxford Transplantation Summer School, LOTS, is a collaboration between the Universities of Leiden and Oxford. With the focus on transplantation and (clinical) research, this 3,5-day international event offers biomedical and medical students the opportunity to learn about the immunulogical background of the transplantation and how to use this knowledge in clinical setting. The course includes the screening aspect before the transplantation, surgical aspect and the post-transplant period. Apart from biomedical and medical students, also students with a different background are welcome to apply.

Translational Summer School (Leiden University Medical Center)
- This is the annual LUMC summer school, which in association with TREAT-NMD, is especially developed for researchers and clinicians interested in translational research. During the 5-day course, participants will discuss the standards of care, outcome measure development, biomarkers, etc. Attendees will have the opportunity to find out about the various interactions that take place between key stakeholders how the regulatory system works and take part in a TACT style review and indepth discussion on ethical issues in clinical trials. Participation in a clinical trial practicality forum as well as a patient communication workshop which focuses on patient communication also forms part of the curriculum.
